SUBJECT
Located in the southern part of the island of Ibiza, this traditional Spanish country house, or "finca", had been in the client's family for many years, and was looking for a much-needed renovation. Focus was placed on maintaining the essential rustic details that gave the home its unique, mediterranean aesthetic, while integrating luxury interior design upgrades to allow for modern comforts.
Challenge
With multiple renovations done in various pockets of the vacation property at varying stages of ownership, the home lacked stylistic unity and a clear design language. Dated finishes and small windows, typical of traditional Ibizan architecture of the period, gave the home a dark and tired feel.
Solution
Studio Moravová approached the renovation by reconfiguring the home's interior architecture to improve spatial flow, maximise natural light and create a seamless integration between the interior and surrounding landscape. Existing partitions were removed, structural openings enlarged and living spaces unified to transform a series of enclosed rooms into a generous, light-filled family home.
The interior design proposal balances the rustic character of the original finca with a contemporary, masculine material palette. Oiled iroko bespoke joinery, grey marble countertops, a worn steel kitchen island and Corten steel window frames introduce warmth, texture and depth while remaining true to the understated elegance of Mediterranean architecture. From the initial concept through to project completion, the project was guided by a clear design vision - creating a home that feels contemporary and fresh while still deeply rooted in Ibiza's rustic character.
